The father, Robert Hunt, or Bob as he is commonly known is 66 years old, hiking the trail when he was 55 years of age. He is now a retired Police Lieutenant from the Yonkers  Police Department in New York  after thirty years of service. He is now living on the coast of North Carolina with his wife, Patti, where they enjoy the beach and golf.

The son, Matthew, is now 32 years old, living in Nashville area, working for a large IT computer company. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee. He joined his father and hiked the trail at the tender age of 21.
